Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Our wonderful therapist Katelyn integrates ACT in her sessions. You can read more about her here: Katelyn Fike.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals accept difficult thoughts and emotions, and take action based on their values and goals.

Instead of trying to eliminate or control negative thoughts and feelings, ACT teaches individuals to observe them without judgment, and then choose a course of action that aligns with their values.

The therapy uses a variety of techniques, including mindfulness, values clarification, and behavioral activation, to help individuals develop psychological flexibility and live a more meaningful life.

“Psychological flexibility is the ability to feel and think with openness, to attend voluntarily to your experience of the present moment, and to move your life in directions that are important to you, building habits that allow you to live life in accordance with your values and aspirations. It’s about learning not to turn away from what is painful, instead turning toward your suffering in order to live a life full of meaning and purpose.” - Steven Hayes (ACT Founder)

ACT aims to help individuals accept the realities of their lives, while still pursuing what is important to them.
